Gormley welcomes Madondo to Green ticket in Tallaght, 14 November 2008.
Zimbabwean Community Leader amongst strong panel of 'New Irish' candidates
Minister John Gormley with Tendai-Madondo, Paul Osikoya and John Hardt
The Green Party has ratified Tendai Madondo to run as a candidate in Tallaght South in next year's local elections.
Party Leader and Environment Minister John Gormley warmly welcomed the Zimbabwean community worker's ratification, and said that she will be joining a strong panel of candidates from the 'New Irish' communities, who will be standing for the Green Party next year.
Minister Gormley said:
"Tendai has a very strong track record in community work, both in the African community in Ireland, and also the other communities with whom she has worked, including: families of prisoners, sufferers of gender-based violence, Traveller communities, and women affected by HIV and AIDS. She has a very high profile both in Tallaght and nationally, and will be a tremendous candidate for the Green Party."
Tendai Madondo added:
"I am very happy to have been selected for the Green Party and I appreciate the
warm welcome I have been given. I look forward to the challenge of the elections
and of working in my community to improve people's access to education, transport,
employment and social and health services. I am very motivated by the issues of
John Hardt, Tendai Madondo and Paul Osikoya
inclusiveness, integration and participation in the democratic system, and I
look forward to bringing a new voice to the people of Tallaght, and, in particular,
to work on behalf of our vulnerable communities."
